Dense 2U storage server

The Dell PowerEdge R740xd packs twelve 3.5-inch drive bays and dual Xeon Gold 6134 processors into a 2U rack chassis. It targets organisations that need high local capacity for software-defined storage, virtual desktop infrastructure or service-provider workloads.

Verify rack depth and network cabling

Confirm your rack can accommodate the 2U height and that power distribution can feed two 750-watt redundant supplies. The system ships with a quad-port daughter card providing two 1GbE and two 10Gb SFP+ links, so ensure compatible transceivers and switch ports are available.

Dual platinum supplies manage heat and noise

Redundant 750-watt platinum-efficiency power supplies share the load, keeping inlet temperatures steady under typical enterprise workloads. Fan speeds scale with CPU and drive activity, so acoustic output rises during heavy RAID rebuilds or sustained compute tasks.
