Dense 2U Storage Server

The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rack server built for capacity-heavy workloads. Two Xeon Gold 6142 processors provide 32 cores at 2.6 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo. 768 GB of DDR4 registered ECC memory fills all 24 DIMM slots. Twenty-four 2.4 TB 10 K SAS drives sit behind a PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache.

Best for Software-Defined Storage

This configuration suits software-defined storage clusters, virtual desktop infrastructure and service-provider hosts that need high drive count in 2U. The dual 1100 W platinum supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise simplify fleet management. Buyers who need GPU compute, all-flash tiers or more than two sockets should evaluate alternative platforms.

24-Bay 2.5-Inch Chassis Constraint

The 24-bay 2.5-inch front panel fixes the maximum number of drives at twenty-four. Expansion beyond that requires additional enclosures or a different chassis. Verify rack depth and power budget before ordering.
