2U rack server with 24 2.5-inch drive bays, dual 12-core Xeon Silver 4116 CPUs at 2.1 GHz, 128 GB DDR4 ECC memory, H730P RAID controller with 2 GB cache, two 300 GB 10 K SAS drives.

HDD 2 x 300GB 10K SAS
The Dell PowerEdge R740xd is a 2U rackmount system designed for storage-intensive workloads such as software-defined storage and virtual desktop infrastructure. Two Xeon Silver 4116 processors provide 24 cores at 2.1 GHz, backed by 128 GB of DDR4 ECC memory. Redundant 1100 W power supplies and iDRAC9 Enterprise remote management support continuous operation in a data-centre environment.
The chassis offers 24 front-accessible 2.5-inch bays for SAS or SATA drives, far exceeding the two 300 GB 10K SAS drives installed from the factory. A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60, so the platform can scale from a modest mirrored pair to a dense all-flash array without changing hardware.
Eight populated DIMM slots leave 16 slots free, allowing expansion up to the platform maximum of 3 TB of DDR4 when larger modules become necessary. Both processor sockets are already occupied, so CPU growth is limited to higher-frequency or higher-core-count Xeon parts compatible with the LGA 3647 socket and C620 chipset.
Measured against everything we stock in Rack & Tower Servers, at today’s prices. Recalculated every night.

Other versions of this model
Two 12-core Xeon Silver 4116 processors run at 2.1GHz with 3.0GHz turbo, giving 24 total cores for virtualization, databases or software-defined storage.
The H730P 2GB controller supports 12Gb/s SAS and SATA with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through, so drive speed caps at the controller's 12Gb/s lane rate.
The server occupies 2U of rack height and includes Dell Ready Rails plus a front bezel for installation in a standard four-post rack.
