A 2U rack server holding 26 front 3.5-inch drive bays with dual Xeon Gold 6150 2.7GHz 18-core CPUs, 128GB DDR4 ECC memory, H730P RAID controller.
The Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 is a 2U rack server built for data-intensive workloads that demand high storage density. Dual Intel Xeon Gold 6150 processors provide 36 total cores at 2.7 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo for parallel compute tasks. The chassis holds 26 front-accessible 3.5-inch drive trays and ships with 128 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory across 16 slots. A PERC H730P controller with 2 GB cache manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60.
This system replaces 2U servers limited to 12 or 16 drive bays when capacity per rack unit is the bottleneck. The jump is worth it for software-defined storage clusters, backup repositories or media archives that need 26 hot-swap 3.5-inch slots in a single 2U envelope. Dual 1100 W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 9 Enterprise remote management support continuous operation in dense racks. Networking includes dual 1 GbE LOM ports plus a dual-port 10/25 Gb SFP28 OCP 2.0 mezzanine card.
Confirm your rack provides 2U of vertical space and adequate airflow for a high-density storage chassis. The server arrives without installed drives; source 3.5-inch SAS or SATA drives compatible with the H730P controller. Memory expansion uses DDR4 ECC RDIMMs only — other DDR generations will not fit. The front bezel and ready rails are not included, so plan for mounting hardware and physical security separately.

The server is a 2U rackmount unit; ready rails are not included so you must supply compatible sliding rails for your cabinet depth.
Trays slide into the front bays and lock with the latch; the common miss is not seating the tray fully until the latch clicks, which leaves the SAS/SATA backplane connector unengaged.
The two 1100 W hot-swap power supplies, the PERC H730P controller battery, and the system fans are the primary field-replaceable units; drives are added by the user.
