2U rack server with 26 3.5-inch drive bays, dual 18-core Xeon Gold 6150 CPUs at 2.7 GHz, 64 GB DDR4, and a PERC H330 controller
The Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 is a 2U rack server built for storage-dense workloads. It ships with twenty-six 3.5-inch drive bays populated by 8 TB 7.2K SATA drives. Dual Intel Xeon Gold 6150 processors each deliver eighteen cores at 2.7 GHz with 3.7 GHz turbo. The system includes 64 GB of DDR4-2666 ECC registered memory across four modules.
A Dell PERC H330 storage controller manages the SATA and SAS drives through a 12 Gb/s interface. Hot-swap redundant 1100 W platinum power supplies support continuous operation during maintenance. Network connectivity combines an integrated dual-port 1 GbE LOM with a Broadcom 57414 dual-port 10/25 Gb SFP28 OCP 2.0 mezzanine card. iDRAC 9 Enterprise provides remote management. Front bezel and ready rails are not included.
The platform supports up to 1 TB of DDR4 memory across sixteen DIMM slots, allowing significant capacity growth from the factory 64 GB. Two processor sockets are fully populated, so compute upgrades would require replacement rather than expansion. Twenty-six drive bays are fully occupied, so additional storage requires external enclosures or a different chassis. The jump is worthwhile when a single 2U node must consolidate large archival datasets with integrated 10/25 Gb networking.

The Dell PERC H330 Mini controller provides 12Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity for the installed drives.
The chassis occupies 2U of rack height and uses a 3.5-inch drive form factor; ready rails and front bezel are not included.
Drives mount in the front 26-bay 3.5-inch backplane; the step often missed is ensuring each carrier clicks fully into the hot-swap connector for proper SAS/SATA link.
