2U rack server with dual 18-core Xeon Gold 6254 CPUs, 16GB DDR4, PERC H730P controller and 26 4TB SATA drives for high-density storage
The Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 is a 2U rack server built for storage-dense workloads. Dual Intel Xeon Gold 6254 processors deliver 36 total cores at 3.1GHz with 4.0GHz turbo. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4-2933 ECC memory and a PERC H730P controller with 2GB cache support RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Twenty-six 3.5-inch 4TB 7.2K SATA drives provide high-capacity local storage.
Verify the LGA 3647 socket matches your processor requirements because the system supports a maximum of two CPUs and both sockets are populated. Sixteen DIMM slots accept DDR4 ECC registered modules up to a 1TB limit, so plan memory upgrades within that ceiling. Two 1100W platinum hot-swap power supplies require redundant PDU feeds; confirm rack power distribution before installation. Front bezel and ready rails are not included.
Twenty-six front-access hot-swap bays allow drive replacement without downtime, while the PERC H730P battery-backed cache protects writes during power events. An OCP 2.0 mezzanine card adds dual 10/25Gb SFP28 ports alongside the onboard dual 1GbE LOM for flexible network topology. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables remote firmware updates, power cycling and console access over a dedicated management port. Redundant power supplies and fans sustain operation during single-component failure.
