DELL PowerEdge R740xd2 2U Rack Server 2x Xeon Gold 6254 3.1GHz 18C 512GB DDR4 26x 8TB SAS H730P

Dense 2U Storage Server

The Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 is a 2U rack server built for workloads that demand high storage density in a compact footprint. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6254 processors running at 3.1GHz with a 4.0GHz turbo frequency, each providing 18 cores for parallel processing. The system includes 512GB of DDR4-2933 ECC registered memory across 16 slots and a Dell PERC H730P controller with 2GB cache supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60 modes.

Suited for Archive and Analytics Workloads

This configuration targets environments such as software-defined storage clusters, big data analytics platforms, backup repositories, and media archives where raw capacity and data integrity are priorities. The 26 installed 8TB 7.2K SAS drives deliver substantial sequential throughput for large-file workloads. Buyers who need low-latency random I/O for transactional databases or virtual desktop infrastructure should evaluate all-flash or hybrid alternatives instead.

26-Bay 3.5-Inch Drive Capacity

The defining specification is the 26-bay 3.5-inch chassis populated with 8TB 7.2K SAS drives, providing a fixed raw storage foundation that determines whether the server fits the intended capacity plan. The H730P controller manages the array with hardware RAID and battery-backed cache. Network connectivity includes a dual-port 1GbE LOM and a Broadcom 57414 dual-port 10/25Gb SFP28 OCP 2.0 mezzanine card for flexible uplink options.
