A 2U rack server with dual Xeon Platinum 8260 24-core processors, 128GB DDR4 ECC memory, a PERC H730P RAID controller, and 26 enterprise 4TB 7.2K SATA drives for high-density storage
The Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 is a 2U rack server built for data-intensive workloads that demand high storage density. It combines dual Intel Xeon Platinum 8260 24-core processors running at 2.4GHz with 3.9GHz turbo, 128GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory, and a Dell PERC H730P controller managing 26 installed 4TB 7.2K SATA drives. Dual 1100W platinum power supplies provide redundant hot-swap power.
This server fits organisations deploying software-defined storage, big data analytics, backup repositories or media archives that need 26 drive bays in 2U of rack space. The 1GbE LOM plus the Broadcom 57414 dual-port 10/25Gb SFP28 OCP 2.0 mezzanine card and iDRAC 9 Enterprise cover networking and remote management. Buyers who need fewer drive bays, lower core counts or a different form factor should look elsewhere.
The H730P 2GB controller supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60 and pass-through modes across all 26 SATA hard drives. Memory uses DDR4-2933 ECC registered DIMMs across 16 slots with a 1TB maximum capacity. Processors are installed in LGA 3647 sockets with a maximum of two CPUs supported.

Watch the front-panel LCD for POST completion, verify the iDRAC 9 Enterprise interface responds at its assigned IP, and check the PERC H730P BIOS utility shows all 26 drives in a healthy RAID set.
The unit includes 2x Xeon Platinum 8260 CPUs, 128GB DDR4-2933 ECC RDIMMs (8x 16GB), 26x 4TB 7.2K SATA 3.5" drives, H730P 2GB RAID controller, 2x 1100W PSUs, 1GbE LOM plus 10/25Gb SFP28 OCP 2.0 card, and iDRAC 9 Enterprise; front bezel and ready rails are not included.
The system has 16 DDR4 slots with 8 currently populated (8x 16GB = 128GB); you can add up to 8 more DDR4-2933 ECC RDIMMs to reach the 1TB maximum supported by the dual Xeon Platinum 8260 processors.
