2U rack server with 26 × 8 TB SATA drives, dual Xeon Platinum 8260 24-core CPUs, 512 GB DDR4 ECC, H330 controller, iDRAC9 Enterprise and dual 1100 W PSUs
The Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 is a 2U rack server built for data-intensive workloads that demand maximum storage density. It targets organisations running software-defined storage, big-data analytics, backup repositories or media archives where capacity per rack unit is the primary design constraint. The platform delivers enterprise-class compute and extensive drive bays in a space-efficient form factor.
The single specification that determines fit is the front-loading 26-bay chassis populated with 26 enterprise 8TB 7.2K SATA 3.5-inch hard drives. A Dell PERC H330 controller manages the array over 12Gb/s SAS/SATA links, providing the raw capacity and throughput required for large-scale data management environments. No other drive count or interface is supported in this configuration.
Two Intel Xeon Platinum 8260 processors, each with 24 cores at 2.4GHz and 3.9GHz turbo, supply the compute headroom for parallel storage workloads. The system includes 512GB of DDR4-2933 ECC registered memory across 16 slots, expandable to 1TB. Network connectivity comprises dual-port 1GbE LOM and a Broadcom 57414 dual-port 10/25Gb SFP28 OCP 2.0 mezzanine card. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables full remote monitoring and administration. Redundant hot-swap 1100W platinum power supplies maintain uptime. Front bezel and ready rails are not included.
