Server configuration

The Dell PowerEdge R750 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Silver 4316 processors running at 2.3 GHz with 20 cores each. It includes 1 TB of DDR4 registered ECC memory across 32 DIMM slots. The system ships with 24 enterprise-grade 1.8 TB SAS hard drives spinning at 10K RPM. Dual 1400 W platinum power supplies provide redundancy.

Storage interface limits

The PERC H755 RAID controller manages the 24 SAS drives over a 12 Gb/s interface and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. Eight gigabytes of non-volatile cache with battery backup protect write operations during power loss. The SAS backplane is limited to 2.5-inch form-factor drives and does not support 3.5-inch devices in this configuration.

Build and connectivity

Hot-swap drive bays and redundant power supplies allow component replacement without downtime. The included Broadcom 57412 dual-port 10 GbE SFP+ OCP 3.0 card handles high-speed network traffic. iDRAC 9 Enterprise enables full remote management independent of the operating system. Ready Rails and a front bezel are supplied for standard rack mounting.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the 24-bay 2.5-inch version with 1.8TB SAS drives or a different capacity?

This configuration provides 24 bays filled with 1.8TB 10K SAS drives, delivering high spindle speed and SAS reliability for databases or virtualization.

What does the 2.3GHz base clock with 3.4GHz turbo mean for actual workloads?

Two Xeon Silver 4316 20-core processors run at 2.3GHz base and can boost to 3.4GHz, giving strong multi-threaded throughput for virtualization and database tasks.

How does the 12Gb/s SAS interface limit drive performance in practice?

The 12Gb/s SAS link and PERC H755 controller support RAID 0/1/5/6/10/50/60, so drive arrays are capped by the 12Gb/s SAS bandwidth per drive.
