Capacity & Form Factor

This is a 2U rack-mount server with twenty-four 2.5-inch drive bays, populated with 960 GB SATA solid-state drives. Two Xeon Gold 5317 processors provide twenty-four cores at 3.0 GHz base clock with 3.6 GHz turbo. The system ships with 1 TB of DDR4-2933 registered ECC memory across thirty-two slots and includes a PERC H755 RAID controller with 8 GB NV cache.

Workload Fit

The configuration suits virtualisation hosts, database clusters and analytics platforms that demand high core counts, large memory capacity and all-flash storage in a compact chassis. Organisations needing GPU acceleration, 3.5-inch drive support or NVMe-only storage pools should evaluate other platforms because this unit uses SATA SSDs and has no GPU riser documented.

Deciding Specification

The installed drive count and interface are fixed at twenty-four SATA 6 Gb/s SSDs managed by the H755 controller supporting RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60. This storage topology sets the usable capacity and performance envelope for any deployment.

Questions about this item

Will the H755 controller and 24 SATA SSDs coexist with older SAS drives I want to keep?

The H755 supports SATA and SAS drives, so your existing SAS drives can be mixed with the 24 installed 960 GB SATA SSDs in the 2.5-inch bays.

How do I verify the dual Xeon Gold 5317 CPUs and 1 TB DDR4 are operating correctly after first boot?

Open iDRAC 9 Enterprise and check the System Inventory for two 12-core Gold 5317 processors at 3.0 GHz and 32 populated DIMM slots showing 1 TB total memory.

Does the shipment include the 5720 quad-port 1 GbE OCP card and rails, or must I order them separately?

The 5720 quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 card, iDRAC 9 Enterprise licence, Ready Rails and front bezel are all included in the box.
