Dual 8-core Xeon Gold 5415+ server

The Dell PowerEdge R760 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 5415+ processors running at 2.9 GHz with a 4.1 GHz turbo frequency. Each CPU provides eight cores for a total of sixteen cores in the system. It ships with 32 GB of DDR5-4800 ECC registered memory installed across thirty-two available slots.

H965i RAID controller with NVMe support

The Dell PERC H965i front RAID controller includes 8 GB of non-volatile cache and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 for SAS, SATA and NVMe drives. Four 2.5-inch drive trays are included to populate a portion of the sixteen hot-swap bays. This configuration replaces an earlier storage controller that lacked NVMe RAID capability.

Redundant 1400 W power and iDRAC9 management

Dual 1400 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies provide redundant hot-swap power for continuous operation. The Broadcom 5720 quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 network card delivers four Ethernet connections. Integrated iDRAC9 Datacenter enables remote management and lifecycle automation without requiring a separate management appliance.

Questions about this item

What rack height and drive-bay count does the PowerEdge R760 need?

The server occupies 2U of rack space and provides sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays for SAS, SATA or NVMe drives.

How are the two Xeon Gold 5415+ processors installed, and what step is often missed?

Both CPUs drop into the LGA 4677 sockets; the step people forget is applying the correct torque sequence on the retention bracket before seating the heatsinks.

What maintenance will the H965i RAID controller and power supplies need later?

The H965i uses an 8 GB NV cache module that may need battery replacement, and each 1400 W platinum PSU is hot-swappable for future service.
