Server Identity

The Dell PowerEdge R760 is a 2U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 6416H processors, each running at 2.2 GHz with 4.2 GHz turbo and 18 cores. It includes 1 TB of DDR5-4800 ECC registered memory across 32 slots and a PERC H965i RAID controller with 8 GB NV cache. The system targets virtualization, AI, databases, and software-defined storage workloads.

Installation Notes

The chassis provides sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays supporting SAS, SATA, and NVMe drives, while the H965i controller manages RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60. Redundant 1400 W hot-plug power supplies and iDRAC9 Datacenter remote management simplify deployment. Common issues include ensuring the OCP 3.0 network card is seated correctly and verifying that all 32 DIMM slots are populated for maximum memory bandwidth.

Pre-Order Checks

Confirm your rack accommodates a 2U form factor and that the power infrastructure can supply two 1400 W connections. The server uses LGA 4677 sockets and supports a maximum of two processors, so no further CPU upgrades are possible beyond the installed pair. Verify that your storage plan fits within the 16-bay limit and that the DDR5 memory type matches any future expansion modules you intend to add.

Questions about this item

How do I verify the PERC H965i controller is managing the four 960 GB SSDs correctly after installation?

Open the iDRAC9 Datacenter interface, navigate to the storage section, and confirm the H965i shows a healthy RAID array with all four 960 GB SATA drives at 6 Gb/s and the 8 GB NV cache active.

Which components are included and which must be purchased separately for this R760 server?

Included are two Xeon Gold 6416H processors, 1 TB DDR5-4800 memory across 32 slots, H965i RAID controller, four 960 GB SATA SSDs, Broadcom 5720 quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 card, iDRAC9 Datacenter, two 1400 W platinum PSUs, ready rails and front bezel; additional drives, GPU cards or extra networking must be bought separately.

Which memory configuration should I choose if I need to expand beyond the factory 1 TB?

The system has 32 DDR5 slots supporting up to 8 TB total; add matching 32 GB DDR5-4800 ECC registered DIMMs in multiples of eight to keep all memory channels balanced.
