Two-processor 2U rack server with 32 cores each, 768 GB DDR5 ECC memory, quad-port 1 GbE networking and four 1.92 TB SATA SSDs on a PERC H965i RAID controller
The Dell PowerEdge R760 is a 2U rack server built for enterprise workloads that demand high core counts and large memory capacity. It ships with two Intel Xeon Gold 6430 processors, each delivering 32 cores at a 2.1 GHz base clock with a 3.4 GHz turbo frequency. The system includes 768 GB of DDR5-4800 ECC registered memory across 24 modules, leaving eight slots available for future expansion. This configuration targets virtualization hosts, database clusters and AI inference platforms that benefit from 64 total threads and high memory bandwidth.
Two hot-swap 1400 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies provide full redundancy for continuous operation in datacentre environments. The 2U chassis uses Dell's engineered airflow design to cool the dual-socket processor complex, 24 DIMMs and sixteen drive bays under sustained load. Fan speeds scale with inlet temperature and component utilisation, maintaining thermal margins without unnecessary acoustic output during lighter workloads. The redundant power architecture allows a supply to be replaced without shutting down the server.
The front panel holds sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays supporting SAS, SATA and NVMe drives; four 1.92 TB SATA SSDs are installed. A Dell PERC H965i controller with 8 GB of non-volatile cache manages RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 across the array. Networking is handled by a Broadcom 5720 quad-port 1 GbE OCP 3.0 adapter, while iDRAC9 Datacenter provides dedicated remote management with Lifecycle Controller automation. Ready Rails and a front bezel are included for standard rack mounting.

The H965i mounts in the dedicated front storage slot using the integrated connector; the step often missed is enabling the controller in BIOS before creating virtual disks.
The two 1400W platinum power supplies and the 24 DDR5-4800 ECC memory modules are the primary field-replaceable units; the four 1.92TB SATA SSDs have a finite write endurance rating.
The 1400W redundant power supply rating and the 2U chassis airflow capacity become the limiting factors before CPU thermal throttling engages.
