A 16-bay 2.5-inch low-power barebone chassis ready for custom CPU, storage and expansion builds
The Dell PowerEdge R760 barebone chassis accepts sixteen 2.5-inch low-power drive bays for dense storage configurations. It arrives without a CPU, memory, disks, expansion cards or power supply so integrators can specify every internal component. This blank-slate approach suits teams building application-specific servers from the ground up.
The low-power drive bay design reduces the thermal load from storage devices during normal operation. With no power supply or active components pre-installed, the chassis itself adds minimal heat and acoustic output before the builder selects cooling and PSU hardware. Final thermals and noise will depend entirely on the chosen processors, power supplies and fan configuration.
The board provides an LGA 3647 socket that dictates which processor generations can be installed. Buyers who need a different socket type or a platform with integrated power delivery cannot use this barebone. Matching the CPU to this specific socket is the single decision that determines whether the R760 fits the build.

Align the processor notches with the socket keys, lower it straight down without touching the contacts, then secure the retention lever fully — skipping the alignment step is the most common error that bends pins.
The barebone ships without CPU, memory, storage, expansion cards or power supplies, so any of those parts you add later will follow their own replacement cycles.
The chassis is rated for low-power drive configurations; exceeding the thermal design power of the processors you install will trigger throttling before the drive bays reach their limit.
