Four-Socket Xeon Server for Mission-Critical

The Dell PowerEdge R940 is a 3U rack server built for organisations that run large databases, virtualisation clusters or real-time analytics. Four Intel Xeon Gold 6148 processors deliver eighty total cores at a 2.4 GHz base frequency, providing the parallel throughput those workloads demand. It ships with 128 GB of registered ECC DDR4 memory across eight modules, leaving forty empty slots for future expansion.

Sustained Multi-Core Performance

Under continuous load the four CPUs can reach a 3.7 GHz turbo frequency while the redundant 1600 W platinum power supplies maintain stable delivery. The 3U chassis provides sufficient airflow to keep all sockets within thermal limits during extended compute runs, avoiding the throttling that smaller form factors exhibit. iDRAC 9 Enterprise allows administrators to monitor temperatures, power draw and firmware health remotely without interrupting production.

Storage and Network Limits of the SAS Controller

The PERC H730P controller manages the two included 300 GB 10K SAS drives and supports RAID levels up to RAID 60 across the eight 2.5-inch bays, capping usable capacity at the drive count rather than the controller bandwidth. Network connectivity is handled by an Intel X520/I350 daughter card that provides two 1 GbE and two 10 Gb SFP+ ports, so total throughput is bounded by those four physical links rather than by the server backplane.
