Dual Xeon E5-2650 v4 server for office workloads

This new Dell PowerEdge T430 ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2650 v4 processors running at 2.2 GHz base and 2.9 GHz turbo. Each CPU provides 12 cores for multi-threaded tasks. The system includes 384 GB of DDR4 2400 MHz registered ECC memory across 12 slots. It targets small offices and remote sites that need single-server performance for collaboration, mail, file, print and web serving.

Redundant 750 W platinum supplies and 5U airflow

Two hot-swap 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver redundant power for continuous operation. The 5U tower chassis uses front-to-rear airflow to cool the dual processors, memory and eight 3.5-inch drive bays. Integrated Broadcom 5720 dual-port 1 GbE LOM handles network traffic without a discrete adapter. iDRAC 8 Express provides out-of-band remote management for monitoring and firmware updates.

Sustained RAID performance

Eight 8 TB 7.2K SATA enterprise hard drives connect to the PERC H730 1 GB controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through. The battery-backed cache protects write data during power loss. This configuration suits workloads that demand consistent throughput over long periods rather than short bursts. Buyers needing faster flash storage or additional drive bays should look elsewhere.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 384GB DDR4 memory into the 12 slots, and which step is often missed?

Populate all 12 slots with the 32GB registered ECC modules; the step often missed is enabling the memory training sequence in the BIOS before the first boot.

Which component will need replacement first under continuous operation?

The 7.2K SATA hard drives have the shortest service life under sustained write workloads and should be monitored for SMART alerts.

What thermal limit appears first when both Xeon E5-2650 v4 CPUs run at 2.9GHz turbo for long periods?

The dual 750W platinum power supplies hit their thermal throttle point before the CPU package temperature reaches its maximum junction limit.
