A 5U rack server with two 12-core Xeon Gold 5118 processors at 2.3 GHz, 128 GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H330 controller and four 1.92 TB SATA SSDs
The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U tower server configured with two Intel Xeon Gold 5118 processors running at 2.3 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo. Each CPU provides 12 cores for a total of 24 threads, supported by 128 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across four 32 GB modules. The system includes a PERC H330 storage controller managing four 1.92 TB SATA solid-state drives.
This dual-processor build replaces single-socket servers that cannot scale beyond 12 cores or 1 TB of RAM. The jump is worth it when workloads demand simultaneous multi-threaded performance and large memory capacity for virtualization hosts, database engines, or software-defined storage clusters. The 16 DIMM slots allow future expansion to the platform maximum.
Dual 750 W platinum power supplies deliver redundant hot-swap power for continuous operation under heavy compute and storage load. The integrated iDRAC 9 Express provides out-of-band monitoring and lifecycle management without interrupting the host. Sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays and PCIe expansion slots support additional controllers or networking for long-running production deployments.

The server occupies 5U of rack space; the supplier notes that ready rails are not included, so a compatible Dell rail kit must be sourced separately.
Align each CPU with the socket keying, lower the load plate gently, and torque the retention screws in the prescribed cross pattern — skipping the pattern is the common error that causes bent pins.
The 750 W platinum units are hot-swap redundant; replace a supply when iDRAC 9 reports a fault. The H330 cache battery typically lasts three to five years and should be swapped when the controller logs a battery-learn failure.
