A 5U tower server with dual 14-core Xeon Gold 5120 CPUs, 128GB DDR4 ECC memory, PERC H330 controller and four 1.92TB SATA SSDs
The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Gold 5120 processors, each delivering 14 cores at 2.2GHz with a 3.2GHz turbo frequency. It ships with 128GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across four 32GB modules and includes a PERC H330 storage controller managing four 1.92TB SATA solid-state drives. This configuration targets virtualization, database hosting, and software-defined storage workloads.
Moving from a single-processor platform doubles the core count to 28 total cores and expands the memory ceiling to 1TB across 16 DDR4 slots. The jump is worthwhile when consolidation ratios demand more simultaneous threads or when memory capacity per host becomes the limiting factor for virtual machines. The second processor is already installed, so no additional kit is required to reach the platform maximum.
The chassis provides sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays, leaving twelve bays free for future SAS, SATA, or SSD expansion without downtime. Dual 750-watt platinum power supplies deliver redundant hot-swap power, while integrated dual-port gigabit Ethernet and iDRAC 9 Express handle networking and remote management. PCI Express slots remain available for RAID, networking, or GPU add-in cards, and the front bezel and rack rails are not included.

The server occupies 5U of rack space and provides sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays for SATA or SAS drives.
Both LGA 3647 sockets are already populated with the 14-core CPUs; the 128 GB ships as four 32 GB DDR4-2400 ECC registered DIMMs pre-installed in the 16 available slots.
The two 750 W hot-plug power supplies and the four 1.92 TB SATA SSDs are the primary field-replaceable units; the PERC H330 controller and system fans are also serviceable.
