Dual Xeon Silver 4116 server

The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U rack server fitted with two Intel Xeon Silver 4116 processors, each running at 2.1 GHz with a 3.0 GHz turbo. Twelve cores per processor give twenty-four threads for virtualization, database hosting or file storage workloads. Sixteen gigabytes of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory are installed across two slots, leaving fourteen slots open for expansion up to one terabyte.

Redundant 750 W platinum supplies

Two hot-swap 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies provide full redundancy so a single unit failure does not interrupt operation. The 5U chassis uses front-to-rear airflow across the sixteen 2.5-inch drive bays and the dual CPU sockets. Fan speeds scale with inlet temperature and processor load to keep noise proportional to the thermal demand.

HBA330 controller and four SSDs

A Dell PERC HBA330 12 Gb/s SAS/SATA controller manages the four included 960 GB SATA solid-state drives without RAID abstraction, presenting them directly to the operating system. Integrated dual-port gigabit Ethernet and iDRAC 9 Express remote management handle network connectivity and out-of-band administration. The front bezel and ready rails are not supplied.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5-inch SSDs into the front hot-swap bays, and what step is often missed?

Slide each drive into a bay until the lever clicks; the step people miss is seating the lever fully so the controller detects the drive.

What maintenance will the dual 750 Watt power supplies need over time?

They are hot-swap redundant units; replace a failed module by pulling the handle and inserting the new one without powering down.

Which limit appears first when the two Xeon Silver 4116 processors run at 3.0 GHz turbo under sustained load?

Thermal limits trigger first; the 5U chassis fans ramp up to cool the 12-core CPUs before power or memory bandwidth becomes the bottleneck.
