The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U tower server built for virtualisation, database hosting and file storage workloads. Dual Intel Xeon Silver 4210 processors provide twenty cores at 2.2 GHz with 3.2 GHz turbo. 128 GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory and a PERC H330 controller support SAS and SATA drives across sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays. iDRAC 9 Express and dual 750 W platinum power supplies complete the platform.

Fit & Exclusions

This system suits organisations running VMware ESXi, Hyper-V or Proxmox VE clusters, Windows Server or Linux databases, backup targets and software-defined storage. Buyers who require more than two processors, GPU-dense compute or a rackmount chassis without a conversion kit should evaluate other platforms. The four included drive trays cover only a quarter of the available bays.

Deciding Specification

Sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap drive bays with SAS and SATA support define the storage capacity ceiling. The PERC H330 controller manages RAID across those bays, so the number of populated trays and drive type chosen directly determines usable capacity and performance.
