5U tower server with dual 12-core Xeon Silver 4214 CPUs, 32 GB DDR4, H730P RAID controller and eight 2.5-inch drive trays
This new Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Silver 4214 processors, each running at 2.2GHz with a 3.2GHz turbo frequency and 12 cores. It ships with 32GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across 16 DIMM slots and a PERC H730P 2GB RAID controller supporting RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60. The chassis provides 16 hot-swap 2.5-inch drive bays, though only 8 drive trays are included. Dual 750W platinum power supplies and iDRAC 9 Express remote management come standard.
Confirm your rack can accommodate a 5U form factor and that your power distribution units can supply two 750W connections. The system supports up to 1TB of DDR4 memory across 16 slots, so plan additional modules if your workloads exceed the installed 32GB. Ensure your operating system and hypervisor support the LGA 3647 socket and Intel Xeon Scalable architecture. Note that front bezel and ready rails are not included with this unit.
This T440 upgrades from smaller 1U or 2U servers that cannot hold 16 2.5-inch drives or dual 12-core processors in a single chassis. It also supersedes non-hot-swap tower systems where drive maintenance requires downtime. The jump is worth it when you need consolidated virtualization, database hosting, or software-defined storage with room for storage growth and redundant power in a rack-mountable 5U platform.
