5U rack server with dual 12-core Xeon Silver 4214 CPUs, 64 GB DDR4, PERC H330 controller, and four 960 GB SATA SSDs
This Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Silver 4214 processors, each running at 2.2 GHz with a 3.2 GHz turbo frequency and twelve cores. The system ships with 64 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory across four 16 GB modules and includes a Dell PERC H330 storage controller managing four 960 GB SATA solid-state drives. Dual 750 W platinum power supplies provide redundant hot-swap power, and iDRAC 9 Express enables remote management. Integrated dual-port Gigabit Ethernet handles network connectivity.
The 24 total cores and 64 GB of ECC memory suit virtualisation platforms such as VMware ESXi, Hyper-V or Proxmox, along with database workloads and file or backup services. Sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays support SAS and SATA drives, allowing storage expansion without downtime. PCI Express slots accept RAID controllers, additional network adapters or other expansion cards. Buyers who require GPU-accelerated compute density or a higher drive-bay count should evaluate alternative platforms.
The installed Dell PERC H330 delivers 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA connectivity to the four 960 GB SSDs and any additional drives added to the sixteen hot-swap bays. This controller determines the RAID levels and drive types supported, so verifying its capabilities against the planned storage topology is essential before deployment.

The PERC H330 runs at 12 Gb/s SAS and SATA 6 Gb/s, so the four installed 960 GB SSDs are capped at SATA 6 Gb/s throughput.
The T440 occupies 5U of rack height and uses sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap bays; ready rails are not included, so you must supply your own sliding rails or shelf.
Both LGA 3647 sockets are already populated with the two 12-core 2.2 GHz CPUs; the common oversight is forgetting to apply fresh thermal paste if you ever reseat them.
