A 5U rack server with two 12-core Xeon Silver 4214 processors at 2.2 GHz, 16 GB DDR4, a PERC H730P controller, four 960 GB SATA SSDs and dual 750 W power supplies
The Dell PowerEdge T440 is a 5U rack server equipped with two Intel Xeon Silver 4214 processors running at 2.2GHz with a 3.2GHz turbo. Each CPU provides 12 cores for a total of 24 threads. The system ships with 16GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across two modules and includes a Dell PERC H730P storage controller with 2GB cache. Four 960GB SATA SSDs are installed in the 2.5-inch drive bays, and dual 750W platinum power supplies provide redundancy.
This server suits organisations running VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V or Proxmox VE virtualisation clusters, as well as Microsoft SQL Server and other database hosting duties. The 16-bay chassis supports SAS, SATA and SSD media for flexible storage layouts. Buyers who need more than 16GB of memory for dense virtualisation should look elsewhere, as would teams requiring integrated 10GbE networking or GPU acceleration. The installed memory uses DDR4 technology and the controller handles SATA and SAS interfaces.
The single specification that decides fit is the Dell PERC H730P 2GB controller, which supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. It manages the four 960GB SATA SSDs and any additional drives added to the 16 hot-swap bays. The controller operates over a 12Gb/s SAS/SATA interface and includes a battery-backed cache for data protection during power loss.
