5U tower server for virtualization and storage

This 5U tower server ships with two Intel Xeon Silver 4214 processors, each running at 2.2GHz with a 3.2GHz turbo frequency and 12 cores. It includes 128GB of DDR4-2400 ECC registered memory across four 32GB modules. The Dell PERC H730P controller with 2GB cache supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50 and 60 plus pass-through mode. Sixteen 2.5-inch hot-swap drive trays provide high-density SAS, SATA and SSD capacity.

Redundant platinum power and quiet operation

Two 750 watt platinum-efficiency power supplies deliver redundant hot-swap power for continuous uptime. The 5U chassis height allows generous airflow paths that keep the dual 12-core CPUs and memory cool under sustained load. Integrated iDRAC 9 Express enables remote thermal monitoring and fan-speed management without a local console. Hot-swap drive trays and power supplies can be serviced while the system remains running.

Flexible expansion for rack or tower deployment

The server supports an optional rack conversion kit for standard cabinet installation. Sixteen drive bays free up internal space by consolidating storage in the front-accessible hot-swap cage. PCI Express slots remain available for additional RAID controllers, network adapters or GPU accelerators. Dual-port gigabit Ethernet is integrated on the motherboard. Buyers who need pre-installed drives or a front bezel should source those separately.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" drives into the 16 front bays, and what step is often missed?

Slide each drive into a supplied tray until the latch clicks, then insert the tray into a bay until the lever locks; the step often missed is seating the tray firmly enough to engage the hot-swap connector.

Which component will need replacement first under continuous operation?

The PERC H730P controller's 2GB cache battery has a limited service life and typically requires replacement before the power supplies or fans.

What thermal or power limit appears first when both Xeon Silver 4214 CPUs run at 3.2GHz Turbo across all 12 cores?

The dual 750W platinum power supplies set the ceiling; sustained all-core turbo on both processors can exceed their combined output, triggering throttling before the cooling system reaches its limit.
