Dell PowerEdge T630 18-bay server

The Dell PowerEdge T630 is a 18-bay rack server built for heavy compute workloads. It ships with two Intel Xeon E5-2699 v4 processors running at 2.2 GHz and 512 GB of DDR4 ECC registered memory. The chassis supports up to eighteen 3.5-inch drives and includes a PERC H730 SAS controller for RAID management.

Installation notes and common issues

The unit arrives with BIOS and firmware updated to the latest stable version after full diagnostics and burn-in testing. Drive caddies are not included, so you must supply compatible 3.5-inch trays for the eighteen bays. The integrated iDRAC8 Enterprise licence enables remote deployment, but initial network configuration requires a direct connection to the management port.

Pre-purchase checklist

Verify that your rack provides at least 36 inches of depth and can support a 40-pound chassis with dual 1100 W power supplies. Confirm you have the required 3.5-inch drive caddies and SATA or SAS drives, as no storage is installed. Ensure your environment can supply adequate cooling for the dual 22-core processors and the 1.5 TB maximum memory capacity.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the server is operating correctly after initial setup?

Check that both Xeon E5-2699 v4 CPUs and all 512GB DDR4 memory appear in POST, verify the PERC H730 controller initialises without errors, and confirm iDRAC8 Enterprise responds on the network.

What components are included and which must be purchased separately?

The chassis ships with two Xeon E5-2699 v4 processors, 512GB DDR4 ECC registered memory, PERC H730 RAID controller, dual 1100W power supplies and a 2-port 332T 1Gb Ethernet adapter; no 3.5" drives or rail kit are installed.

Which drive-count version should I select for maximum 3.5-inch bay capacity?

The 18LFF chassis provides up to 18 hot-plug 3.5" bays, the highest density available for this T630 model.
