Dell PowerEdge T640 GPU Fan Cage

This 12V fan cage assembly fits the Dell PowerEdge T640 server and adds four high-efficiency fans directly over GPU cards. It is built for operators running GPU-dense workloads who need targeted airflow inside the existing chassis. Buyers without a T640 or without GPU cards installed cannot use this part.

Installation and airflow role

The cage slides into the server’s standard fan assembly slot and draws cool air across the full length of installed graphics cards. It frees the system’s primary fans from handling the extra thermal load that dense GPU configurations create. Systems that do not populate the GPU risers or that use only low-profile cards will not benefit from the additional airflow path.

Thermal behaviour under load

Four 12V fans spin up to move concentrated air across GPU heatsinks during intensive compute tasks. The assembly draws power from the server’s 12V rail and is designed for continuous operation in high-density GPU deployments. Acoustic output rises with fan speed, so quiet office environments should expect increased noise when the GPUs are fully utilised.

Questions about this item

How many fans does the 6KK42 cage use to cool GPU cards?

The assembly contains four 12 V fans that direct airflow straight onto installed GPU cards for sustained workloads.

What noise or heat level should I expect when the cage runs continuously?

Four high-efficiency fans spin at server-grade speeds, so audible airflow and measurable exhaust heat are normal during all-day GPU compute tasks.

Which server chassis and GPU power cables must already be present for this cage to function?

It fits the Dell PowerEdge T640 fan slot and requires the system's 12 V fan headers plus the GPU auxiliary power connectors your cards need.
