Precision 5530 mobile workstation

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6-inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8850H six-core processor, 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. A dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P1000 with 4 GB of GDDR5 graphics memory handles professional visual workloads. The 1920 x 1080 IPS InfinityEdge display covers 72 % colour gamut and runs Windows 10 Pro.

Upgrade from integrated graphics

Moving from a system that relies on integrated graphics or an older dual-core processor to this six-core configuration with dedicated Quadro graphics makes sense when 3D modelling, CAD or multi-threaded rendering become daily tasks. The Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 ports also add high-speed external display and storage options that earlier thin-and-light workstations often lacked.

Suits engineers and creators needing certified

This workstation fits engineers, designers and analysts who require ISV-certified drivers and a colour-accurate screen in a portable silver chassis. Buyers who want more storage than 1 TB, a touchscreen, or a higher refresh-rate panel for gaming should look at other configurations.

Questions about this item

Does the 15.6 inch chassis accept a standard 2.5 inch SATA drive for extra storage?

No 2.5 inch bay is present; the 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD occupies the only internal storage slot.

Which screw or latch must be removed first to reach the memory slots?

Remove the nine Torx screws on the bottom cover, then pry the cover off; the two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots lie directly under the heat pipe.

When will the 4 GB GDDR5 video memory on the Quadro P1000 need replacement?

Video memory is soldered to the board and cannot be replaced separately; only a full motherboard swap would change it.
