Mobile workstation with 4K touch display

The Dell Precision 5530 is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation built around an 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8850H six-core processor. It ships with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a dual-storage layout that pairs a 256 GB M.2 drive with a 4 TB SSD. The UHD IPS panel delivers 3840 x 2160 resolution with multi-touch input and 72% colour gamut coverage. Windows 10 Pro comes pre-installed.

Connectivity and expansion for professional

Thunderbolt 3 provides four lanes of PCIe bandwidth for external GPUs, high-speed storage or dual 4K monitors. Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports and an HDMI 2.0 output handle legacy accessories and presentation displays without adapters. The combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth module keeps wireless links simple. An included Dell AC adapter powers the system and charges attached Thunderbolt devices.

Upgrade from integrated-graphics ultraportables

This configuration replaces thin-and-light laptops that rely on integrated graphics when CAD, 3D rendering or colour-critical workflows demand a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro P1000 with 4 GB GDDR5. The hexa-core CPU and 32 GB RAM remove bottlenecks in multi-threaded workloads that dual-core ultraportables cannot clear. Buyers who need ISV-certified drivers and a 4K touch screen in a single chassis will benefit; those seeking only web browsing or office apps will not use the professional GPU.

Questions about this item

How long can the 4.30 GHz turbo boost hold before the i7-8850H throttles back?

The six-core i7-8850H runs at 2.60 GHz base and can reach 4.30 GHz with Intel Turbo Boost; sustained all-core clocks will settle lower depending on the dual-fan cooling capacity.

What noise and heat should I expect from the dual-fan cooler when the Quadro P1000 and CPU run flat out all day?

Dual fans move air through a thin chassis; expect audible fan spin and warm keyboard deck under continuous 4GB GDDR5 GPU and six-core CPU load.

Which cables or docks do I already need to drive external displays over the Thunderbolt and HDMI 2.0 ports?

You need a Thunderbolt 3 cable or dock for the USB-C port and a standard HDMI 2.0 cable for the HDMI output; both support 3840 x 2160 resolution.
