Precision 5550 mobile workstation

The 2020 Dell Precision 5550 is a 15.6 inch mobile workstation built around an eight-core Intel Core i9-10885H processor that reaches 5.30 GHz turbo. It ships with 32 GB of memory, a 256 GB SSD and a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro T2000 GPU driving a 1920 x 1200 non-touch display. Windows 10 Pro is pre-installed.

Suits certified-app users.

Engineers and designers who rely on ISV-certified drivers for CAD, rendering or simulation workloads will benefit from the Quadro T2000 and the eight-core CPU. The 256 GB drive fills quickly with large assemblies or video projects, so buyers who need more onboard capacity should look elsewhere. The non-touch screen also rules out pen or direct-touch workflows.

Thin chassis with Thunderbolt expansion

At 0.46 inches thick and 4.06 lbs the chassis fits in standard 15 inch bags while leaving desk space for external monitors. Two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 and Power Delivery handle docks, high-speed storage or GPU enclosures, freeing the single internal SSD slot for a future capacity upgrade. An SD card reader and universal audio jack complete the I/O without needing extra dongles.

Questions about this item

Does the Precision 5550 need an external power adapter to charge its battery, or can it charge from a USB-C Power Delivery dock?

The laptop includes USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports with Power Delivery, so it can charge from a compatible USB-C dock or adapter without the original barrel charger.

Will the i9-10885H and Quadro T2000 run smoothly with my existing 1080p external monitor connected over USB-C?

Yes, the USB-C ports support DisplayPort alt mode, letting the dedicated Quadro T2000 drive a 1920 x 1200 or 1920 x 1080 external display at full refresh rate.

After first boot, how can I confirm the system is using the Quadro T2000 instead of the integrated graphics?

Open Windows Device Manager, expand Display adapters, and verify NVIDIA Quadro T2000 appears alongside the Intel UHD graphics; the NVIDIA control panel will also list the T2000 as the active GPU for 3D apps.
