Precision 7740 Mobile Workstation

The Dell Precision 7740 is a 17.3-inch mobile workstation built for professionals who need certified graphics and ISV reliability. It pairs an Intel Core i9-9850H processor at 2.60 GHz with 32 GB of memory and dual 512 GB NVMe drives for fast project loading. The Nvidia Quadro RTX 3000 with 6 GB GDDR6 handles 3D rendering, simulation and GPU-accelerated applications. Windows 11 Pro is pre-installed and the unit ships with a 240 W Dell AC adapter.

Installation and common issues

As a complete laptop there is no internal assembly required; simply connect the 240 W adapter and power on. The factory-installed Windows 11 Pro image boots to a ready-to-use desktop with drivers for the Quadro RTX 3000 and Intel UHD Graphics 630 already configured. The only frequent setup step is docking or external-display configuration, which is handled through standard Windows display settings. Battery health is reported as good in BIOS, so no immediate battery service is expected.

Who this suits and who should look elsewhere

This workstation suits engineers, architects and content creators who rely on Quadro-certified drivers and a 17.3-inch FHD screen for colour-critical work on the move. The dual NVMe layout gives separate fast volumes for OS and active projects. Buyers who need a lighter chassis for frequent travel, a higher-resolution or HDR panel, or more than 32 GB of memory for large datasets should consider other form factors.

Questions about this item

How do I confirm the Quadro RTX 3000 6GB GDDR6 and Intel UHD Graphics 630 are both active after setup?

Open Device Manager and verify both the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 and Intel UHD Graphics 630 appear without errors; run a GPU-Z render test to confirm the 6GB GDDR6 VRAM is detected.

What ships with the Precision 7740 and what must I source separately?

The box contains the laptop, 240W Dell AC adapter, and Windows 11 Pro pre-installed; 32GB RAM and 2x512GB NVMe are already installed. No extra cables or drives are required for basic operation.

Which configuration suits heavy 3D rendering: the 32GB RAM with dual 512GB NVMe or a higher-capacity alternative?

The 32GB RAM and 2x512GB NVMe provide strong multi-tasking and fast project loading for Quadro RTX 3000 workloads; choose a larger capacity only if your datasets regularly exceed 1TB total storage.
