A barebone 1U rack server with eight 2.5-inch drive bays and LGA 3647 socket, supplied without CPU, memory, storage, expansion cards or power supply for fully custom builds
The Dell PowerEdge R660 is a 1U rack server chassis with eight 2.5-inch drive backplanes designed for custom hardware deployments. It arrives without a CPU, memory, storage, expansion cards or power supplies, giving integrators a blank platform for tailored builds. The low-power design targets environments where thermal and electrical headroom are constrained. This unit suits system builders who want full control over component selection from the ground up.
Eight front-accessible 2.5-inch bays provide dense storage capacity in a compact rack footprint, supporting mixed SSD and HDD configurations as required. The backplane layout accommodates high drive counts without sacrificing front-panel serviceability. Builders needing 3.5-inch drives or more than eight devices must look elsewhere, as the chassis does not support larger form factors or additional internal drive cages. Storage controller choice remains entirely open because none is included.
The board uses an LGA 3647 socket, so processor selection determines final thermal output and power draw; no CPU or cooler ships with the barebone. With no power supplies installed, the integrator chooses redundant or single units matched to the selected processor TDP and add-in card load. Fan speed profiles will scale with the fitted components, meaning acoustics and airflow are defined by the completed configuration rather than the empty chassis.

The backplane holds eight 2.5-inch bays, so any 2.5-inch form-factor drive that matches the server's drive carrier will fit physically.
Power the unit on and watch for the iDRAC and POST screens; the system will report CPU, memory and backplane status before any operating system loads.
The barebone ships without power supplies, rail kits or drive carriers; those items must be sourced separately for the build.
