Build foundation
The Dell PowerEdge R660XS barebone chassis arrives without CPU, memory, drives, RAID controller or power supply, giving system integrators a clean slate for custom deployments. Its 8 backplane bays accept 2.5‑inch drives, and the low‑power design targets environments where energy draw must stay minimal.
Storage capacity
Eight 2.5‑inch bays provide room for a modest array of SSDs or HDDs, enough for operating‑system volumes, application data or a small database. The backplane supports one drive per bay, so capacity stops when all eight slots are filled; larger 3.5‑inch drives or more than eight devices cannot be accommodated.
Component freedom
Because no processor, RAM, storage, RAID card or PSU are included, buyers select every active part to match workload and budget. This also means the chassis cannot function until each missing subsystem is sourced and installed separately.

Questions about this item
Will the R660A01 chassis accept my existing 2.5-inch drives from an older Dell server?
The chassis provides eight 2.5-inch backplane bays, so any compatible 2.5-inch drive that matches the backplane interface will fit.
How can I confirm the R660A01 is functioning after I install my own CPU, memory and power supply?
After populating the LGA 3647 socket and adding DIMMs and PSUs, the system POST and iDRAC indicators will show power, memory training and drive detection status.
Which components are included with the R660A01 and which must I source separately?
The barebones unit ships with the chassis, 8-bay backplane and system board only; you must supply CPU, RAM, storage drives, RAID controller and power supplies.
