Dell R749K 450GB 15K SAS Drive

This is a Dell R749K 450GB 15K RPM SAS 3.5-inch internal hard drive supplied new with its hot-plug tray. It is built for Dell PowerEdge servers that accept 3.5-inch SAS drives and require 15000 RPM spindle speed. The tray ensures correct mechanical fit in compatible PowerEdge bays.

Suits PowerEdge Servers Listed

This drive suits administrators upgrading or repairing PowerEdge models such as R310, R320, R410, R415, R420, R510, R515, R520, R610, R620, R710, R720, R720xd, T310, T320, T410, T420, T610, T620 or T710. It is not for systems that only accept 2.5-inch drive form factors or that require a different tray design.

15000 RPM SAS Interface Decides Fit

The single specification that decides compatibility is the 15000 RPM SAS interface combined with the 3.5-inch hot-plug tray. The server backplane must support SAS at this spindle speed and the physical tray must match the chassis latch mechanism.

Questions about this item

Does the R749K come with the mounting tray required for a 3.5" bay?

Yes, the drive ships with the Dell hot-plug tray that slides directly into the 3.5" front bays of compatible PowerEdge servers.

What is the correct way to seat the SAS connector when installing this drive?

Push the tray firmly until the SAS backplane connector clicks into place; the drive will not spin up if the tray is only partially inserted.

After how many operating hours should a 15000 RPM SAS drive like this be considered for replacement?

Enterprise 15K drives are typically rated for five years of continuous operation; plan replacement around that interval or when SMART reallocated-sector counts begin to rise.
