Dell RMCP3 1.2TB 10k SAS Drive

The Dell RMCP3 is a 1.2TB internal hard drive with a 2.5 inch form factor. It operates at 10000 rpm and uses a SAS interface with a 6Gb/s external data transfer rate. The drive includes a 64MB cache buffer. It is supplied new in retail or OEM packaging.

Suited for SAS Storage Arrays

This drive suits servers and storage arrays that accept 2.5 inch SAS drives running at 6Gb/s. It is not for systems that only support 3.5 inch drive bays. Buyers needing a different capacity or a lower spindle speed should consider other models.

6Gb/s SAS Interface Decides Fit

The single specification that decides compatibility is the 6Gb/s SAS interface. The host controller or backplane must support this exact interface standard. A 10000 rpm spindle speed and 64MB cache are fixed characteristics of this model.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SAS drive in a 3.5" bay, and which step do people get wrong?

Use a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter bracket and secure it with four screws; the step often missed is connecting both the SAS data and power cables firmly to the backplane.

What maintenance or replacement will the 10000 rpm SAS drive need later?

The mechanical spindle and bearings wear over time; plan to replace the drive once SMART reallocated-sector counts rise or unusual vibration appears.

What limit appears first on the 6Gb/s SAS interface during sustained writes?

The 10000 rpm platter speed caps sequential throughput well below the 6Gb/s SAS link, so the mechanical media becomes the bottleneck first.
