Dell RU772 8X Slim DVD-ROM

The Dell RU772 is a 12.7mm slimline internal optical drive that reads DVD media at up to 8X speed. It connects through a standard SATA interface and is designed to fit Dell OptiPlex small-form-factor chassis.

SATA interface and 12.7mm height

The drive requires a SATA data and power connection and a 12.7mm drive bay; systems without a slimline bay or SATA port cannot use it. Buyers who need Blu-ray playback or disc writing should choose a different drive.

What does the SATA interface cap in practice?

The SATA connection limits data transfer to the SATA bus speed, which the 8X DVD read rate stays well within.
