Dell 146 GB SAS drive

The Dell SAS drive delivers 146 GB of storage in a 2.5 inch form factor. It spins at 15K RPM and includes a 16 MB cache. The drive uses a SAS interface for enterprise connectivity. Supplied new, packing may vary.

Suited for servers needing fast SAS storage

This drive fits systems that accept 2.5 inch SAS drives and require 15K RPM performance. Buyers who need larger capacity or a different interface should consider other options. The 146 GB limit may not meet high-capacity array requirements.

15K RPM spindle speed

The 15K RPM rotational speed is the key specification for transaction-heavy workloads. It determines the drive's random I/O capability and latency profile. Verify your controller supports this speed before purchase.

Questions about this item

How do I install the 2.5" SAS drive in a 3.5" server bay?

Mount the drive in a 2.5-to-3.5 inch adapter tray, connect the SAS data and power cables, then secure the tray in the bay; the step often missed is seating the SAS connector fully until it clicks.

What maintenance or replacement will the 15K RPM drive need later?

Plan to replace the drive after its rated service life; mechanical wear on the 15K spindle and bearings is the primary aging factor, so monitor SMART reallocated-sector counts and schedule a swap before failure.

What limit appears first during sustained writes to the 146 GB SAS drive?

The 15K RPM mechanical latency and 16 MB cache size constrain sustained write throughput; the drive will hit its maximum sequential transfer ceiling before thermal throttling becomes an issue.
