Capacity and interface

This is a 1.2 TB 2.5 inch SAS hard drive spinning at 10 000 RPM with a 64 MB cache. It ships new in a lot of ten units, each supplied with a Dell PowerEdge caddy for direct installation. The 6 Gb/s SAS interface connects to compatible server backplanes.

Server compatibility and use-case fit

The drive fits a wide range of PowerEdge models including M610, R620, R720, T420 and many others listed in the compatibility data. It suits administrators refreshing storage arrays in those specific chassis. Buyers needing larger capacities or different form factors should look elsewhere.

Deciding specification

The 6 Gb/s SAS interface is the single specification that decides fitment; the drive will only operate in systems with a matching SAS backplane or controller. Verify that the target server supports 2.5 inch SAS drives before purchasing.
