Dell 1.2 TB 10 000 RPM SAS drive

This Dell ST1200MM0007 is a new 1.2 TB internal hard drive with a 2.5 inch SAS interface running at 6 Gb/s. It spins at 10 000 RPM and ships with an R tray for mounting in compatible bays. The drive is suited for servers and workstations that need fast mechanical storage in a small form factor.

Enterprise arrays needing 10K SAS capacity

The drive fits systems that accept 2.5 inch 6 Gb/s SAS disks and can use the supplied tray. Buyers who need higher capacity than 1.2 TB or a faster interface than 6 Gb/s should look elsewhere. Systems without a SAS backplane or controller cannot use this drive.

Questions about this item

What does the 10000 RPM speed mean for real-world access times?

The 10000 RPM spindle reduces average rotational latency compared to slower drives, giving quicker random read and write response for transaction-heavy workloads.

What does the SAS 6Gb/s interface limit in practice?

The 6 Gb/s SAS link caps the maximum burst transfer rate at the interface level, so sustained throughput cannot exceed that signalling ceiling.
