Dell EqualLogic 1.2TB SAS drive

This is a lot of ten new Dell EqualLogic ST1200MM0088 hard drives, each offering 1.2TB capacity and a 10000RPM spindle speed. They use a 2.5-inch SAS 12Gbps interface with a 128MB cache and ship with EqualLogic server caddies included.

Suits 12Gbps SAS bays; not for slower SAS backplanes

These drives suit administrators expanding or repairing Dell EqualLogic arrays that support 12Gbps SAS connectivity and 2.5-inch form factors. Builders whose chassis or controllers only accept lower-speed SAS links should look at other drives.

12Gbps SAS interface decides fit

The single specification that determines compatibility is the 12Gbps SAS interface; the system backplane and controller must support this exact link speed to use the drives at their rated performance.

Questions about this item

Will the 12Gbps SAS interface on this ST1200MM0088 work with my existing 6Gbps SAS backplane?

Yes, the 12Gbps SAS drive is backward compatible with 6Gbps SAS controllers and backplanes, though it will operate at the lower 6Gbps speed.

How can I verify the 10000RPM spindle speed and 128MB cache are recognised after installation?

Check the drive properties in your RAID controller BIOS or OS disk utility; they will report 1.2TB capacity, 10000RPM rotation and 128MB buffer.

Does the lot of 10 include the EqualLogic caddy trays for each 2.5" drive, or must I order them separately?

The listing states it includes EqualLogic server caddy trays, so all 10 drives ship mounted in their trays ready for the chassis.
