Capacity and form factor

This is a 1.2TB 2.5-inch internal hard drive spinning at 10000RPM with a 128MB buffer. It is built for Dell PowerEdge servers that accept 2.5-inch SAS drives. The lot contains 10 drives, each reporting zero hours of operation.

SAS 12Gb/s interface

The drive uses a 12Gb/s SAS connection, which is the single specification that determines whether it will work in your chassis and controller. Verify that your backplane and RAID card support this exact interface speed before purchase.

Gen14 PowerEdge caddy included

Every drive ships pre-mounted in a Gen14 PowerEdge caddy, so installation in compatible servers such as the R340, R440, R540, R640, R740, R840, R940, R740XD, R940xa, R6415, R7415, R7425 or C6420 requires no extra tray. This saves time during deployment and ensures proper mechanical fit.

Questions about this item

How does the 10000RPM speed affect real-world performance in a server?

The 10000RPM spindle delivers lower latency and higher sustained throughput than slower drives, which benefits transaction-heavy workloads on compatible Gen14 PowerEdge servers such as the R640 or R740.

What does the SAS 12Gbps interface limit in practice?

The SAS 12Gbps link caps the maximum transfer rate at 12Gbps, so actual throughput will not exceed that ceiling even if the drive media could go faster.

Will the included caddy fit a 2.5-inch bay in a Dell PowerEdge R740?

Yes, the supplied Gen14 PowerEdge caddy is designed for 2.5-inch bays in servers including the R740, R640 and R740XD.
