DELL

DELL ST2000NX0433 2TB 7200RPM 12Gbps 2.5" SAS internal hard drive

SKU CH-G55F-KG4EY

A 2.5-inch SAS enterprise drive stores 2TB at 7200RPM with a 128MB cache and ships with an R Series caddy

  • 2 TB capacity stores large datasets
  • 7200 RPM spindle delivers fast sequential access
  • 12 Gb/s SAS interface supports high-throughput servers
  • 128 MB cache buffers burst workloads
  • 5 inch form factor fits dense drive bays

Dell Enterprise 2TB SAS Drive

This new Dell Enterprise 2.5-inch SAS hard drive delivers 2TB of storage at 7200RPM with a 12Gbps interface and 128MB cache. It ships with an R Series caddy for direct installation in compatible Dell servers and storage arrays. The 2.5-inch form factor suits dense enterprise chassis where 3.5-inch bays are not available.

For 12Gbps SAS environments only

This drive suits administrators expanding Dell PowerEdge or PowerVault systems that accept 2.5-inch 12Gbps SAS drives with the supplied caddy. Buyers whose backplanes or controllers do not support 12Gbps SAS, or who need a different physical connector, should look elsewhere.

Interface speed confirms compatibility

The single specification that decides fit is the 12Gbps SAS interface; the drive will only operate at its rated speed when connected to a 12Gbps SAS backplane or controller. Verify that your system supports this exact interface before purchase.

Questions about this item

How much power does the 2.5" SAS 12Gb/s drive draw during continuous 7200RPM operation?

The drive is designed for enterprise workloads and runs at 7200RPM on a 12Gb/s SAS link, so sustained power draw will be typical for a 2.5-inch 7200RPM SAS unit under constant load.

Which controller or backplane must I already have to run the 12Gb/s SAS interface on this 2.5-inch drive?

You need a SAS HBA, RAID card or server backplane that supports 12Gb/s SAS signalling and provides a 2.5-inch drive bay with the included R Series caddy.

Will the 128MB cache and 12Gb/s SAS link work transparently with my older 6Gb/s SAS backplane?

The drive negotiates down to 6Gb/s on an older backplane, keeping the 128MB cache active, so it functions normally but at the lower link speed.
