  • Supplied with Dell Gen14 caddy for compatible servers

2.4 TB SAS server drive

This 2.4 TB SAS drive is built for Dell PowerEdge servers that need high-capacity, high-speed storage in a small form factor. It suits administrators upgrading or replacing drives in compatible 14th- and 15th-generation rack and tower systems.

SAS 12 Gb/s interface

The single specification that decides fit is the SAS 12 Gb/s interface combined with a 10 000 RPM spindle. Only controllers and backplanes that support this speed and protocol will recognise the drive and deliver its rated throughput.

Gen14 caddy included

The drive ships with a Gen14 caddy so it slides directly into supported hot-swap bays without extra hardware. Installation fails when the server model is not on the supported list or when the backplane firmware is too old to recognise the drive.

Questions about this item

How much usable space will the 2.4 TB capacity give me once the drive is formatted in a server?

The drive provides 2.4 TB of raw capacity; after formatting and RAID overhead the usable amount depends on the array level and block size you choose.

What does the SAS 12 Gb/s interface limit in real-world throughput?

The SAS 12 Gb/s link caps the maximum burst transfer rate at 12 Gb/s; sustained throughput will be lower and is determined by the 10000 RPM mechanics and controller queue depth.

Will the included Gen14 caddy fit a 2.5-inch bay in a PowerEdge R740?

Yes, the supplied Gen14 caddy is designed for 2.5-inch SFF bays in the listed PowerEdge servers including the R740.
