2.4 TB 10K SAS drive

This 2.4 TB SAS hard drive spins at 10,000 RPM and connects through a 12 Gb/s interface. It includes a 256 MB cache operating in 512e format and ships with a Gen14 PowerEdge caddy for direct installation.

Suited for Gen14 PowerEdge bays

The drive fits Dell PowerEdge R340, R440, R540, R640, R740, R840, R940, R740XD, C6420, R6415, R7415 and R7425 servers. Systems without a 2.5-inch SAS backplane or without Gen14 caddy support cannot accept this module.

12 Gb/s SAS interface

The single specification that decides compatibility is the 12 Gb/s SAS connection. Controllers or backplanes limited to slower SAS speeds will not negotiate the full link, so verify the host interface before purchase.

Questions about this item

How much power does the 10000RPM SAS drive draw when running continuously in a server?

The 2.5in 2.4TB drive spins at 10000RPM on a 12Gb/s SAS interface with a 256MB buffer; sustained operation in a Gen14 PowerEdge bay typically stays within the chassis cooling budget.

What controller or backplane must my system already have to use this 12Gb/s SAS drive?

A 12Gb/s SAS HBA, RAID card or server backplane with 2.5in hot-swap bays is required; the included Gen14 caddy fits R340, R440, R540, R640, R740, R840, R940, R740XD, C6420, R6415, R7415 and R7425.

Will this 512e-format SAS drive work alongside older 512n drives in the same RAID array?

The drive presents 512e sectors; most PERC controllers can mix 512e and 512n devices in a single virtual disk, but the array will run at the lowest common block size.
