Suits high-IO server and workstation roles

The 15000 RPM spindle speed and SAS interface suit transactional databases, logging arrays and other latency-sensitive workloads. Buyers who need more capacity per spindle or a different physical interface should consider other drives.

Questions about this item

Will the 15000 RPM SAS 3Gb/s drive work on an older SAS 1.5 Gb/s backplane?

The drive uses a 3Gb/s SAS interface and will negotiate down to 1.5 Gb/s on an older backplane. Throughput will be limited to the slower link speed.

How can I verify the 15000 RPM Cheetah is running correctly after install?

Check SMART data for zero reallocated sectors, confirm the drive reports 146 GB capacity and 15000 RPM in the BIOS or OS utility, and listen for steady spindle noise.

Does the ST3146356SS come with the R Series caddy or must I buy it separately?

The listing states the drive includes the R Series caddy or tray, so no separate purchase is needed for mounting in a compatible Dell bay.
