Compatibility check before ordering

Verify that your server accepts 3.5-inch SAS drives and that the backplane or controller supports the 6 Gbps link speed. Confirm the drive carrier matches your chassis slot type. This product is not designed for desktop or home PC use.

Thermals, noise and power

At 7200 RPM the drive produces typical enterprise-grade acoustic output and heat for a 3.5-inch SAS disk. Ensure adequate airflow in the server enclosure to maintain safe operating temperatures. Power draw follows standard SAS specifications for this capacity and speed class.

Questions about this item

What comes in the box with the ST33000650SS and what must be purchased separately?

The drive itself is supplied; a SAS cable, a 3.5-inch drive tray for the PowerEdge bay and a compatible SAS controller or backplane must be sourced separately.

Which capacity and speed version of the Constellation line should I select for a 3 TB requirement?

Choose the ST33000650SS — it delivers 3 TB at 7200 RPM with a 64 MB cache over a SAS interface.

What does the 6 Gbps SAS figure mean once the drive is installed in a PowerEdge server?

It sets the maximum interface transfer rate; sustained throughput will be limited by the 7200 RPM platters and the server's backplane capabilities.
