Silver 3.5 inch SCSI hard drive with 80-pin connector

DELL

DELL ST336605LC 36GB 10000RPM SCSI U160 80-pin 3.5" internal hard drive

SKU CH-0Z1H-1PP0H

A 3.5-inch internal hard drive with 36GB capacity, 10000RPM speed and SCSI U160 80-pin interface delivering 160MB/s throughput

  • 36 GB capacity for critical data storage
  • 10000 RPM spindle speed for fast access
  • 160 MB/s SCSI interface for high throughput
  • 80-pin 3.5" form factor fits standard bays
  • 0 pound weight for easy installation

Capacity and purpose

This 36GB SCSI hard drive is built for legacy servers and workstations that require an 80-pin U160 interface. It suits administrators maintaining older storage arrays or replacing a failed drive in a RAID set where capacity matching is critical.

Deciding specification

The drive spins at 10000RPM and delivers a 160MB/s Ultra160 SCSI transfer rate across the 80-pin connector. That combination of speed and interface determines whether the unit will integrate with the existing controller and backplane without negotiation issues.

Build integration

The 3.5-inch form factor fits standard drive bays and hot-swap carriers designed for SCA-2 connectors. It draws power directly from the backplane, freeing internal cabling space, and requires a compatible Ultra160 SCSI controller to operate at the rated throughput.

Questions about this item

What does the 10000 RPM spindle speed mean for real-world access times?

The 10000 RPM rotation cuts average latency compared with slower drives, giving quicker random reads for database or transaction workloads.

What does the SCSI U160 160 MB/s interface cap in practice?

The U160 bus tops out at 160 MB/s, so sustained transfers cannot exceed that ceiling even if the drive media is faster.

Will the 80-pin 3.5-inch form factor fit my server backplane?

Yes, the 80-pin SCA connector and standard 3.5-inch dimensions match hot-swap bays designed for U160 drives.
