Dell Cheetah 15K.7 450GB SAS drive

This Dell Cheetah 15K.7 drive delivers 450GB of storage on a 3.5-inch SAS interface spinning at 15000RPM with a 16MB buffer. It is built for servers and workstations that need fast, reliable access to transactional data. The unit ships new with a black hot-swap caddy for tool-less bay installation.

Compatibility checklist for SAS bays

Confirm your chassis accepts 3.5-inch SAS drives and that the backplane or controller supports 6Gb/s SAS signalling. The included caddy fits Dell PowerEdge bays; other enclosures may need a different tray. Verify the system firmware recognises 15K RPM drives before ordering.

Thermals, noise and power in normal use

At 15000RPM the drive runs warmer and louder than slower disks; expect noticeable seek noise in quiet rooms. Typical idle draw is modest but rises under sustained random I/O. Ensure the server bay provides directed airflow across the 3.5-inch form factor.

Questions about this item

Does the drive ship with the black caddy shown in the photos, or must I buy a tray separately?

The listing states it includes the black series caddy and tray, so no extra bracket is needed for a standard 3.5 inch SAS bay.

There are two part numbers — H995N and 0H995N — which one should I order?

Both numbers refer to the same Dell Cheetah 15K.7 unit; 0H995N is Dell's usual format with a leading zero, while H995N is the abbreviated form.

What real-world throughput can I expect from the 15 000 RPM SAS interface inside a server?

The 6 Gb/s SAS link and 16 MB cache let the drive sustain speeds suited to high-transaction workloads such as databases and virtualisation.
