600 GB 15 000 RPM SAS drive

This new Dell Cheetah 15K.7 drive provides 600 GB of storage on a 3.5 inch SAS 6 Gb/s interface spinning at 15 000 RPM with a 16 MB buffer. It is built for Dell PowerEdge servers that require high-speed enterprise storage.

Fits 3.5 inch SAS backplanes

The unit ships with an R-series caddy so it mounts directly into compatible PowerEdge drive bays without extra brackets. A SAS host bus adapter or RAID controller with 6 Gb/s ports is required to connect the drive.

R-series caddy included

The bundled tray secures the drive in Dell server chassis and aligns the SAS connector for hot-plug backplanes. No additional mounting hardware or software utilities are supplied.

Questions about this item

How long can the 15000RPM spindle run before heat becomes the limiting factor?

The 15000RPM spindle is designed for continuous operation in Dell PowerEdge servers with adequate chassis airflow; sustained use is limited by the server cooling capacity rather than the drive itself.

What noise and heat output should I expect from the 15000RPM mechanism during all-day operation?

The 15000RPM Cheetah 15K.7 produces noticeable whine and runs warmer than slower drives; it requires the server fan wall to maintain safe temperatures under constant load.

Which SAS controller or backplane must my system already have to use this 6Gb/s drive?

A 6Gb/s SAS HBA, RAID card, or PowerEdge backplane with 3.5in SAS bays is required; the included R-series tray fits Dell 3.5in hot-swap cages directly.
