Capacity and Interface

This new Dell Constellation ES.3 drive provides 4TB of storage on a 3.5 inch SAS 6Gb/s interface. It spins at 7200RPM and includes a 128MB buffer for enterprise workloads. The unit ships with an R Series caddy for direct installation.

Who This Suits

Administrators expanding Dell PowerEdge T-series or R-series servers listed in the compatibility data will find a direct fit. Buyers who require a different interface protocol or a 2.5 inch form factor cannot use this unit. Systems without a SAS backplane or controller also fall outside the intended use.

Deciding Specification

The 6Gb/s SAS interface is the single specification that determines whether this drive matches your server. Verify that your controller and backplane support SAS at this speed before purchase.

Questions about this item

The 7200RPM mechanism with 128MB cache is built for sustained workloads in the listed Dell servers; actual acoustics and temperature depend on the chassis airflow and mounting.

What existing hardware is required to connect this 3.5-inch SAS 6Gb/s drive?

A SAS-capable backplane or HBA with a 3.5-inch drive bay and the supplied R-series caddy are needed for installation in the compatible Dell servers.

Will this 4TB SAS drive work in an older Dell T300 alongside existing drives?

Yes, the drive is listed as compatible with the T300 and other PowerEdge models; it will operate at the SAS 6Gb/s link speed supported by the server's backplane.
